About this Item
Naudé Wines is the culmination of a journey that began more than 30 years ago. Since the first harvest, Ian Naudé has worked all over the world, hoping to craft wines that tell a story of time and place.
'I love the diversity we have in South Africa. Not just of the people, but the soils, the microclimates, and the wine varietals that thrive under their own unique conditions. I’m fortunate to have been introduced to a few of these vineyards, and work with some of the wonderful grapes that they produce, many of these from certified old vines. The grapes on these vines are storied, complex and unique. Each year they represent something different – whatever nature allows them – and with any luck, I don’t get in the way.' - Ian Naude, Winemaker

Critics Ratings
2013 - ‘Fermented naturally with minimal handling (like all in range), 2013 needs even more time to reach potential promised by lemon and oatmeal intensity, weighty viscosity balanced by fresh acidity. Calls for food and serious contemplation. 10% new oak.’ – Platter’s SA Wine Guide 2016, 4.5*
‘Ian Naudé blends fruit from Elgin, Paarl and Darling here in a dry style that has the ageing potential that characterises his wines. Apple pie, some struck match, creamy oak and a core of taut acidity, this is very fresh and long on the palate.’ – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2015, 92/100
2016 - ‘Blend of 3 old-vine terroirs in Durbanville, Stellenbosch and Swartland. 2016 wild ferment, 12 months in barrel, 10% new, nut/fruit concentration, tangerine, and preserved quince. And then the palate surprise, minerality, a finish that’s saline and very long.’ – Platter’s SA Wine Guide 2020, 4.5* (93/100)
‘Beeswax. Put an old candle out, smell the smoke. The lines of this wine are so sure, so firm, so tucked in. Precise. CAD drawn. Wired tight to the ground. Etched; cumin and smoke, honey and green apple. More Chablis-esque than Chenin! This wine is not going to uncoil anytime soon.’ - Tamlyn Currin, JancisRobinson.com, 17+/20 (Nov 2021)
