About this Item

2015 Naude Chenin Blanc
6 (1 x 6) 750ml

In all the winelands of the world, old vines get proudly mentioned on labels, in many languages. Such is the value everywhere accorded to old vineyards and the wines they produce. But only in one country, South Africa, is it possible for that claim to be certified by the regulatory authority. Here, members of the Old Vine Project (OVP) can now put a Certified Heritage Vineyards (CHV) seal on bottles of wine made from vineyards of 35 years or older, together with the planting date. This is a guarantee to the consumer of authentic wines grown according to the OVP viticultural and winemaking guidelines.

Naudé Wines is the culmination of a journey that began more than 30 years ago. Since the first harvest, Ian Naudé has worked all over the world, hoping to craft wines that tell a story of time and place.

100% Chenin Blanc, this wine represents a blend of terroirs with the grapes coming from 35-50 year old vines in the Swartland and Durbanville. Whole bunch pressed, the juice underwent natural fermentation in 3rd fill French oak barrels where it was kept on the lees. The wine spent a year in barrel and shows luxurious body along with a striking purity and strong line of acidity. With minimal interference and no additions barring some sulphites, this wine will age for 30+ years

'I love the diversity we have in South Africa. Not just of the people, but the soils, the microclimates, and the wine varietals that thrive under their own unique conditions. I’m fortunate to have been introduced to a few of these vineyards, and work with some of the wonderful grapes that they produce, many of these from certified old vines. The grapes on these vines are storied, complex and unique. Each year they represent something different – whatever nature allows them – and with any luck, I don’t get in the way.' - Ian Naude, Winemaker
