The Fabulous Picture Show
About the Session

The Fabulous Picture Show  is an annual fundraising auction held by the Friends of the Tatham Art Gallery, to raise funds for the purchase of new art works for the Tatham Art Gallery permanent collection.  It is essential for an art museum collection to grow on a regular basis, in order to reflect the dynamic nature of South African artistic production.  Without a purchasing budget and ongoing acquisitions, the collection would remain stagnant.

Notes

Born on 28 February 1978 in Willowfountain, near Pietermaritzburg. While he was at school, he attended art classes at the Tatham Art Gallery and was privately tutored in art as a matric subject. After matric he studied Textile Design and Technology at the Durban Institute of Technology, with some assistance from the Friends of the Tatham Art Gallery. Sikosana is well-known for his deceptively joyful and colourful depictions of township life, which highlight social conditions. The dark undertones are often lightened with humorous elements. His works are represented in the Department of Art and Culture, Tatham Art Gallery and Carnegie Art Museum, and in many private collections in South Africa, the United Kingdom and United States of America.
