About this Item
Isole e Olena lies in the western part of Chianti Classico, just to the north of Castellina. It comprises of 45 hectares, planted between 350 - 450 metres above sea level on galestro soils. In the 1950s, the De Marchi family bought two adjoining properties, Isole and Olena, and combined them into one estate. They played a crucial part in reviving the quality of Chianti in the 1970s and are now known as one of the most prominent producers in Chianti. Paolo De Marchi keeps his vineyards superbly tended and, as a result, they yield wines of the highest quality. The estate’s flagship, the 100% Sangiovese Cepparello, was first released in 1980 to join the ranks of other Super-Tuscans and sits alongside wines like Tignanello and Masseto.

Critics Ratings
‘The 2007 Cepparello comes across as rich, round and totally seductive in this tasting. Stylistically, it shares many attributes with the 1990 and 1997, although in my view it is more elegant than those wines. There is an immediacy about the 2007 that is highly appealing, and which will make the wine accessible relatively early. Layers of fruit build beautifully to an exciting crescendo of aromas and flavors. This is an undeniably sexy Cepparello. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2027.’ - Antonio Galloni, Wine Advocate, 96/100 (Jun 2012)
‘Deep red. Aromatic nose of ripe red cherry, menthol and underbrush, with an intriguing note of peach. Sweet, supple and dense, with ripe flavors of dark plum, almond, underbrush and tomato paste. Finishes long and smooth, with a strong coffee nuance.’ - Ian D’Agata, Vinous, 93/100 (Jul 2010)
