About this Item
Pio Cesare is one of Piedmont’s greatest names. The historic, family-owned estate has been producing wine for over 135 years, through 5 generations, in their ancient cellars under the streets of Alba. The late Pio Boffa managed to combine the best of the old with the best of the new in classically styled, elegant expressions of the Nebbiolo grape. Against the current trend of single-vineyard wines, Pio Cesare believes in blending various prime parcels in order to achieve greatness.

Critics Ratings
‘Discreet nuances of vanilla and toast accent the core of cherry, raspberry and floral flavors in this elegant, yet firm Barolo. Beautifully balanced, complex and long, with leather, tar and mineral elements emerging on the finish. Best from 2017 through 2028.’ - Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator, 94/100 (Dec 2014)
‘Concentrated ruby with orange tinges. Subdued nose with hints of cardamom skin. Impressive concentration on the palate with sweet oak notes on the finish. Clear modernist approach, and the Nebbiolo character is a little covered up by the oak for the moment, but it works due to the masses of fruit. Well balanced in its massiveness. Huge finish.’ - Walter Speller, JancisRobinson.com, 17+/20 (May 2014)
