About this Item
Situated in the Klein Karoo in the town of Calitzdorp, De Krans is perched along the upper reaches of the picturesque Gamka River Valley. Chris Nel built the cellar in 1964 and his sons, brothers Boets and Stroebel Nel, have taken over and still specialise in top-class fortified dessert wines, created using classic port varieties that are ‘declared’ only in outstanding vintages.
The 1994 De Krans Cape Vintage Reserve has excellent aging potential. Well-stored bottles can continue to evolve and develop additional complexity for several decades, making it a wine suitable for long-term cellaring.

Critics Ratings
‘Stylish, improving with each vintage, in drier, “new Cape” style. To date all Tinta Barocca. (Touriga Naçional, Roriz and Souzão into production in 1997). ‘94 almost opaque plummy purple, still immature but rich, sweet prune aroma, concentrated palate, intense fruity flavours. Very dry for the Cape at 85g/l sugar.’ - Platter’s SA Wine Guide 1997, Very Good Cape Wine
