About this Item

1995 Cape Vintage Port Limited Release
3 (1 x 3) 750ml

Closely guarded by the Helderbergs peaks and cooled by fresh sea breezes off False Bay, the legendary JP Bredell Wines have become world-renowned for their award-winning quality wines of outshining others in their class, both nationally and internationally.

Beloved by ‘port’ lovers in particular, and critically acclaimed, JP Bredell Wines has new wind in its sails in the person of Bernhard Bredell, winemaker and son of the winery’s founder Anton Bredell. Rejecting the ‘materialistic glamour behind the wine estates of the new age’, the family have steadily shifted focus from their former Stellenbosch estate Helderzicht closer to their vast (8,000+ ha), mostly untouched Aasvoëlsvallei Nature Reservation Farm in Klein Karoo’s Langeberg-Garcia, to a new farm, Langberg Halt. Here Mediterranean varieties planted in virgin soils are maturing. Meanwhile grapes will be brought in from 2017 for on-site vinification, and basic visitor facilities are envisaged. The wines below are mostly limited re-releases, some in different bottle formats, of long-nurtured stock. Be on the lookout for a 20-year-old Cape Tawny ‘from Anton’s finest Helderberg vines’.

These wines are hen’s teeth collectors’ delights, all drinking beautifully now.

Critics Ratings

'The Cape’s best? Many believe so. Certainly not only a local benchmark, but much admired by some of Portugal’s leading producers for combination of its power and refinement. It would be infanticide to drink the 1995 (in 1999)’ – Platter's SA Wine Guide 1999, 5*
