About this Item
Based in the Walker Bay region of South Africa, Crystallum is run by brothers Peter-Allan and Andrew Finlayson, 3rd-generation winemakers who focus on Burgundy varieties. Within only a little over 15 years (interestingly the first vintage was a singular Sauvignon in 2007!) this outfit has positioned itself as one of the top proponents of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in South Africa. Awards locally and internationally are in fact unrivalled, and the wines are sold out every year on release.
Peter and Max are the first names of the growers who supplied the fruit for the first vintage of this wine. The fruit sources have since changed but the name remains to honor the beginnings of our multi-vineyard Pinot Noir blend. The philosophy here is to use the different batches to form a blend that is more than the sum of its parts.

Critics Ratings
‘Full bodied and with density to its dark-berry, undergrowth fruit, 2017 is also refined and supple. Balanced structure and freshness of fine tannins allow for current and future drinking pleasure. 30% whole bunch, 10% new oak. From 4 vineyards.’ - Platter’s SA Wine Guide 2019, 4.5* (91/100)
‘Four different properties supply fruit for this aromatic, cool climate Pinot Noir from Peter-Allan Finlayson. It’s a bright, elegant style with red cherry and strawberry fruit, some clove spice from 40% whole clusters and a juicy, refreshing finish. 2019-23.’ - Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2018, 93/100
