A French gilt-metal and bronze-mounted mantle clock, 19th century
the 9,1cm white enamelled circular dial with Roman hour numerals, inscribed Renard A Rouen, bell striking movement, with silk suspension, the backplate numbered 1165 6, the dial enclosed by moulded c-scrolls, trailing flowerheads and spear-shaped motifs, the rectangular top surmounted by a bronze scholar seated adjacent to a writing table, with gilded books, raised on a plinth base with moulded gilded collar, each side applied with a scroll surmounted by an urn, raised on moulded bracket feet, the silk suspension is damaged, 55cm high
