'This collection of tapestries pays homage to the ‘Voorkamer’; the one room in your house that you ‘maak mooi’ for others but mostly for yourself. They are rooms of celebration, a physical filter that one day you hope will seep over the rest of your house and at last be a reflection of you and the vision of yourself you want to be.

We all have rooms in our physical & mind spaces that we dress up, hide away the pain or the shampoo bottles. This is the squeaky clean room that gets painted and projected into tomorrow; The room we wish to colour over and decorate with our version of beautiful. Spaces that are full of hope and how we wish we see ourselves or want others to see us. And yet within all the colour and texture there is always boxed in limitations of reality; Whether it is due to our physical, architectural space, cultural and environmental landscapes, limited resources or personal blocks that box us inside.' - Frances van Hasselt, 2023
