About this Item
Marc de Grazia is the owner and founder of Tenuta Delle Terre Nere and considered by many to be the pioneer in putting the region of Etna on the map. He was the driving force behind convincing the Italian wine industry the value of demarcating Contrada within their wine producing areas. Marc is a big fan of this classification system and has integrated the model into his own lineup. According to Robert Parker, ‘Terre Nere’s wines all possessed unbelievable freshness and complexity as well as huge perfumes that suggested Pinot Noir…These wines are astonishingly complex and ethereal efforts from the hillsides of Mt. Etna in Sicily.’ Together with the ethereal Burgundian-like reds, Terre Nere also produces finely textured, powerful whites.

Critics Ratings
‘Compared to the wine made from the Contrada Santo Spirit, the 2014 Etna Rosso Guardiola is more subtle and streamlined. This expression delivers elegance and grace with pretty layers of wild berry, blue flower and light spice. It shows an impressive sense of harmony and seamless integration. Yet, don't underestimate the power of the mouthfeel. Guardiola delivers a very fine and firm tannic structure that adds to the wine's length and persistency. You can taste its volcanic favors for many long minutes.’ – Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, 94/100 (Aug 2017)
‘Hints of spice, dried rose and leather accent flavors of ripe crushed plum, dried cherry, black licorice snap and citrus in this balanced, medium-bodied red. Offers a chewy, fragrant finish. Drink now through 2026.’ – Alison Napjus, Wine Spectator (Dec 2016)
‘Up to 1,000 m (3,280 ft) elevation; Terre Nere’s highest vineyard. Pale mid red. Light and lively. Very dry on the end. Lots in reserve. Lots of structure.’ – Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 17.5/20 (May 2016)
‘Made from the estate's highest vineyards, ranging between 800 and 1,000 meters high, this boasts balsamic aromas of wild Mediterranean herb, leather, menthol and dark spice. The palate is youthfully austere, offering dried cherry, licorice, espresso, clove and tobacco. Assertive, fine-grained tannins and firm acidity provide backbone and an age-worthy structure. Drink 2019–2029.’ – Kerin O’Keefe, Wine Enthusiast, 94/100 (Sep 2016)
