About this Item
The Beaumont family were among the first to harness the potential of wine grapes in the picturesque Bot River district and with Sebastian Beaumont at the helm their reputation is established as a fine wine producer, spearheaded by the consistently superb reserve Chenin from the oldest vineyard blocks on the farm (planted 1974 & 1978).
Quietly regarded as one of South Africa’s benchmark Chenin Blancs, this barrel fermented, elegant style put Bot River and Beaumont on the fine wine map. Known to age for a decade or more, the Hope Marguerite has the longest consecutive Platter 5* track record in the history of the guide.

Critics Ratings
‘Pungent and deep flavoured with green freshness and Chenin richness. Almost Loire-like!’ – Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 17/20 (Jun 2017)
‘Understated, restrained styling in 2014 with lively tension; oak integration & less sugar (4.2 g/l) than 2013 (93 pts) ensure long, clean apple & lime farewell. Proven pedigree from 41 & 37 year vines to deserve/reward cellaring.’ - Platter's SA Wine Guide 2016, 4.5*
‘The 2014 has a beguiling nose – some reduction, citrus and white peach, hints of flowers and spice. The palate is lean but not mean with fresh acidity and a long finish. Just a hint of leesy complexity. It’s extremely elegant and shows great winemaking deftness.’ – Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 95/100 (Sep 2015)
‘The Hope Marguerite block was planted in 1978, but the wine it produces tastes as if it comes from even older vines. Creamy yet focused, leesy and sensitively oaked, it has complex tangerine and tarte tatin flavours and a long, satisfying finish. A great site and a great Chenin. Drink: 2015-20’ - Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2015, 94/100
‘The 2014 Hope Marguerite Chenin Blanc comes from the estate's two oldest blocks of vine, fermented in barrel in a combination of settled and unsettled juice to obtain a more leesy, reductive character. Matured in 15% new oak, the nose is very closed at the moment and probably needs a couple of years to find its voice. The palate is more promising though: good weight in the mouth, quite creamy in texture with hints of brioche and sherbet towards the appealing finish. Just give this a little time for those aromatics to open.’ – Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, 91/100 (Sep 2015)
