About this Item
Reyneke is one of 5 Stellenbosch properties to get First Growth status in Tim Atkin's 2017 SA Report. Reyneke farm began in 1863 when it was then named 'Uitzicht', meaning 'view'. It is located overlooking Stellenbosch and False Bay with north, south and east facing slopes. Reyneke is certified organic and biodynamic and follows sustainable practices in everything they do. 'Their wines demonstrate the care they take, not infallible wines, rather honest and personality-driven wines that are distinctive, as much cerebral as sensory experiences,' says Neal Martin.
Producer Notes: 'The holy grail of winemaking is to produce a wine which is unique to its terroir - a wine that honestly reflects the soil, prevailing climate and method of cultivation. The Biodynamic range is exactly this: wines with a true Reyneke identity. All the grapes are grown by Johan on the Reyneke farms. The adjacent farms overlook False Bay from Polkadraai Hills just outside of Stellenbosch, and have decomposed granitic soils, which make unique perfumed and elegant wines with depth and structure. All wines in this range are vegan – friendly and biodynamic (Demeter Certified).'

Critics Ratings
‘There's an herbal character upfront on the nose of this wine, with blackberry leaf and bramble hit by notes of licorice root, anise and a hint of wild, gamy animal. It's bright yet medium-full on the palate, with ample acidity to help counter the assertive tannins and plush red berry flavors. The finish veers toward fruit skin tones, finishing grippy and slightly bitter.’ – Lauren Buzzeo, Wine Enthusiast (Jul 2019)
After richly scented, succulent 2013 (5 stars, 95 pts), 2014 starts at a lower pitch with restrained glimpses of spice & a brisk, relatively unyielding palate. The maturation time it deserves will increase the flow, texture and inimitable spice, ripe berries & herby character that distinguish this great-value shiraz.’ - Platter’s SA Wine Guide 2017, 4.5*
‘Full ruby-red. Wild scents of blackberry, licorice, flint and leather, plus a whiff of adhesive tape that suggests some brettanomyces. Supple but reticent flavors of black fruits, spices, leather and wild herbs are a bit muted by the wine's animal element. This very young wine finishes savory and a touch dry, with a fine dusting of tannins. This is wilder than the 2013 version and without that wine's high-pitched perfume..’ – Stephen Tanzer, Vinous (Mar 2017)
