About this Item
Located in the heart of Gigondas, Saint Cosme is one of the oldest estates in the region with its winemaking dating back to Roman times. The estate has belonged to the Barruol family since 1490 and has passed through 14 generations. They have 15 hectares of old vines with an average age of 60 years and have been practicing organic viticulture since the 1970s. They established a negociant side to the business in 1997 whereby they produce wines from great terroirs and locations outside of Gigondas.
Côte-Rôtie is renowned for its Syrah-based red wines, which are characterized by their elegance, complexity, and age-worthiness.

Critics Ratings
‘Medium to full-bodied, ripe, fresh, elegant, and powerful, with pepper, tapenade, cassis, and olive characteristics dominating its explosive, aromatic nose, the dark ruby/purple-tinged, medium to full-bodied 2007 Cote Rotie is extraordinarily pungent aromatically. That characteristic will no doubt be controversial, and consumers will either love it or leave it.’ - Robert M. Parker, Jr., Wine Advocate, 90-93/100
‘Dark ruby. Potent aromas of berry and cherry skin, minerals and black olive, plus a hint of cracked pepper. Racy, finely etched raspberry and bitter cherry gain flesh with air and take on a sweet violet pastille quality. This juicy, refreshing and nicely balanced wine finishes with very good lift and persistent minerality.’ - Josh Raynolds, Vinous, 92/100 (Jan 2010)
