About this Item
Poderi Aldo Conterno is a Piedmont producer known for its wines from the best parcels of the Bussia vineyard in Monforte d'Alba. Aldo Conterno, who died in 2012, was regarded by many as the greatest of all Barolo winemakers. The business was founded in 1969 when Aldo bought the Favot estate with its Bussia holdings. For the previous eight years, he had managed Giacomo Conterno with his brother, but left to make wines in a less resolutely traditionalist environment. The estate is now run by his three sons.
Barolo Bussia is one of the most renowned crus within the Barolo appellation, known for producing wines of exceptional quality and complexity. The Bussia vineyard is located in the commune of Monforte d'Alba and is characterized by its limestone-rich soils and optimal sun exposure, which contribute to the wines' distinctive character.

Critics Ratings
‘Always a reliable introductory bottling, the 2001 Barolo Bussia, a lively ruby, presents an aromatic and floral nose, with notes of spices, mint and minerals. It displays clean, focused flavors of ripe red fruit on a soft, medium-bodied frame, finishing with good length and freshness. This classy and refined Barolo is made from a blend of parcels in the Bussia zone that are less well-exposed, and therefore not considered ‘cru' level quality.’ - Antonio Galloni, Vinous (Oct 2006)
