About this Item
Established in 1921, Paolo Scavino is a historical winery in Barolo and has been one of Langhe’s leading and most innovative producers since the beginning. Based in the heart of Barolo, in Castiglione Faletto, the vineyard parcels are found in the perfect terroir where the elegance of La Morra meets the power of Serralunga. With Burgundy as his guide, Enrico – the current custodian and fourth-generation winemaker – vinifies all the parcels separately by way of understanding his land. ‘The Scavino family (Enrico and his daughters Enrica and Elisa) carry forth an important family legacy,’ writes Wine Advocate, ‘with a wide range of cru-specific wines that brilliantly exhibit individual styles.’ Their work is inspired by their love and respect for their territory, pursuing complex, elegant and terroir-expressive wines.
The Cannubi vineyard is one of the most renowned vineyard sites in Barolo, located in the commune of Barolo itself. It is considered one of the Grand Cru vineyards of the region, known for producing wines of exceptional quality and longevity.

Critics Ratings
‘The 2000 Barolo Cannubi is so fresh and primary it would be virtually impossible to peg in a blind tasting as a 2000. Layers of jammy dark fruit flow from this intense, rich Barolo. The house style speaks more loudly than vineyard character in 2000, but the wine makes up for that with its superb length and harmony. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2030.’ - Antonio Galloni, Wine Advocate, 96/100
‘Good full red. Knockout nose combines red cherry, rose petal, cinnamon, sage and minerals. At once opulent and juicy, with compelling spice and balsamic notes to the wine's sweet raspberry fruit. Wonderfully sweet and precise wine, silkier than the Monvigliero but also showing outstanding grip and lift. In comparison, the 2007 is as long but a bit more gamey.’ - Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, 95/100 (Nov 2011)
‘There's a sense of elegance here, a perfect foil for the floral, cherry, strawberry and underbrush aromas and flavors. Possesses a firm, sinewy structure, which will allow this to develop over the next 10 to 20 years. Best from 2016 through 2034.’ - Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator, 93/100
‘Maturing mid ruby with broad orange rim. Sweet, savoury cherry with a hint of mulch. A touch of nuttiness on the nose too. Lovely, supple fruit that is richly tannic and quite concentrated on the finish. Not ready by far.’ - Walter Speller, JancisRobinson.com, 17/20 (March 2016)
