About this Item
The now historic wine is single-handedly responsible for launching the Super Tuscan movement and remains one of the most sought-after wines in the world. After decades of experimentation, the first vintage was released in 1968. Marchese Nicolò Incisa della Rocchetta continues the decades of tradition today at Tenuta San Guido, which is considered by many to be the birthplace of Tuscan Cabernet.
Le Difese is another offering from Tenuta San Guido, introduced as a second wine to Sassicaia. Le Difese is typically a blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon, with a smaller percentage of other local red grape varieties. The wine aims to provide a more approachable and affordable introduction to the style and quality associated with Tenuta San Guido.

‘Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese make up the 2013 Le Difese. The wine opens to a garnet hue and medium consistency. It's easy-drinking style is reinforced by bright berry flavors of blueberry and cassis followed by sour cherry and cranberry. This vintage is slightly thornier and more acidic than the warmer vintages that precede it. It also shows an extra touch of elegance and persistency. The wine is silky and tight on the close with a long sense of berry freshness that keeps it alive on the palate.’ - Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, 90/100
‘The 2013 Le Difese is absolutely gorgeous. Sweet, layered and highly expressive, the 2013 possesses superb balance. Sweet red cherry, tobacco, mint, cedar and spice take on a translucent sense of expression. This is one of the best versions of Le Difese I can remember tasting.’ - Antonio Galloni, Vinous, 90/100 (July 2015)
‘Round and smooth, exhibiting cherry and herb flavors in a straightforward way, with moderate lenght. This is balanced and ready to enjoy. Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese. Drink now through 2018.’ - Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator
‘Light and fresh. Very correct but a little timid.’ - Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 16/20 (Jan 2016)
