About this Item
Finca Allende is a prestigious winery located in the Rioja region of Spain, specifically in the village of Briones. The winery was founded by Miguel Ángel de Gregorio, a visionary winemaker known for his dedication to crafting high-quality wines that express the unique terroir of Rioja. The name "Finca Allende" translates to "beyond the horizon," reflecting Miguel Ángel de Gregorio's aspiration to create wines that transcend expectations and capture the essence of the Rioja landscape. The vineyards of Finca Allende are situated in the Alavesa subregion of Rioja, which is known for its limestone and clay soils, as well as its favorable climate for grape cultivation. The estate's vineyards are planted with traditional Rioja grape varieties, including Tempranillo, Garnacha, and Graciano, among others
Aurus is one of the flagship wines of Finca Allende, crafted from old-vine Tempranillo grapes sourced from the estate's best vineyards. It represents the pinnacle of the winery's production, showcasing the full potential of Rioja's indigenous grape variety.

Critics Ratings
‘The 2001 Aurus has a peppermint-scented bouquet with impressive fruit concentration and seems far more backward than the 2000. It has fine balance with ripe minty dark cherry and cassis fruit and an exuberant, youthful, spicy finish that has another 15-20 year ahead of it. Wonderful! Drink now-2030.’ - Neal Martin, Vinous, 95/100
‘(the 85% tempranillo component comes from vines averaging more than 60 years of age) Good bright, deep ruby. Knockout nose combines black raspberry, plum, mocha, minerals, and smoky, nutty oak. Lush, sweet and voluptuous, but with fruit of steel. Wonderfully dense, thick but vibrant wine that mounts impressively on the back half and saturates the palate with fruits, minerals and spices. One of the longest Spanish wines of my recent tastings and a great example of this outstanding vintage.’ - Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, 95/100 (Sep 2005)
‘This punchy red is dominated by toasty, smoky oak flavors, but there's plenty of ripe fruit underneath, with notes of plum, raisin and spice, and enough acidity to keep it lively.’ - Thomas Matthews, Wine Spectator, 90/100
