About this Item
Domaine Bruno Clair is a well-regarded Burgundy producer with vineyards across the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune. The majority of its wines are made from Pinot Noir, but it also makes Chardonnay and Aligoté covering the gamut of regional designations from Bourgogne and villages to premier and grand cru. Its most highly regarded sites are in the grand cru vineyards of Bonnes-Mares, Corton-Charlemagne and Chambertin-Clos-de-Bèze.
The Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jacques is one of the premier vineyards within the Gevrey-Chambertin appellation, known for producing wines of exceptional quality and complexity.

'The 2011 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Saint-Jacques 1er Cru from Bruno Clair has a splendid bouquet that appears to be evolving with style: wonderful delineation, seamlessly integrated oak and commendable fruit intensity. This just unfolds with panache. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannin, crisp acidity, sensual and pure with a precise, caressing finish brimming over with tart red cherries and strawberry, the essence of Pinoté! Superb. Tasted at Flint Wines Burgundy 2011 tasting.’ - Neal Martin, Vinous, 93/100 (May 2019)
‘Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. The Gevrey-Chambertin Clos St Jacques 2011 has plenty of fruit concentration on the nose with raspberry, fresh strawberry, sous-bois and woodland scents springing forth. The palate is medium-bodied with fleshy ripe tannins that lend its silky texture; good depth of fruit although missing a little delineation on the finish. Still, this has good potential and fine salinity on the finish. This is the most sensual of the Clos Saint Jacques 2011s.’ - Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, 92/100 (Nov 2014)
‘So much more drive and energy than the Cazetiers! Really racy and well worth the premium. If you decide to spend hundreds of pounds on a Gevrey premier cru of course… Good stuff. I actually swallowed it – unusually!’ - Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 17.5/20 (Jan 2013)
'Not surprisingly this is both more elegant and cooler with its expressive nose of intensely floral-suffused red berry fruit and wet stone nuances. There is a more refined mouth feel to the even more obviously mineral-driven flavors that are supported by finer grained tannins and superb length on the tension-filled and perfectly balanced finish. A Zen-like wine of harmony and grace.’ - Allen Meadows, Burghound, 92-94/100 (Jan 2013)
