About this Item
The family-owned Delheim estate, owned by the Sperlings, is located on the slopes of the Simonsberg Mountain. The late Michael Hans 'Spatz' Sperling, was the Patriarch of Delheim but his eldest son and daughter (Victor and Nora) now run the farm and live there together with their families. In addition to the vineyards on the Delheim farm, they also produce red grape varieties on a property known as Vera Cruz, located just a few kilometers away. They follow sustainable farming practices and produce a wide range of internationally acclaimed wines.
The Edelspatz Riesling – one of the wine world’s iconic Noble Late Harvests (NLH) and most consistently awarded wines since its inception in 1979.
"Edelspatz" translates to "Noble Sparrow" in German, reflecting the German heritage of the Sperling family, who established Delheim in 1938. This wine is a "Noble Late Harvest," indicating that the grapes used to make it were harvested late in the season, typically affected by Botrytis cinerea, commonly known as noble rot. Noble rot causes the grapes to shrivel, concentrating the sugars and flavors, resulting in a rich, sweet wine with complex flavors.
