About this Item
Domaine Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier was founded in 1863 by Frédéric Mugnier’s great-great-grandfather. In 1985, Frederic – a fifth generation Mugnier – took over, and somehow managed to combine the running of the property with his job as an airline pilot. He now focuses his efforts solely on winemaking. The estate is renowned for its Chambolle-Musigny and is the second largest owner in Musigny.
Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos de la Maréchale is one of the most esteemed Premier Cru vineyards in the Nuits-Saint-Georges appellation. Situated in the northern part of the Côte de Nuits, Clos de la Maréchale is known for producing wines of exceptional quality and complexity. The vineyard's limestone-rich soils and optimal sun exposure contribute to the wines' distinctive character.

‘(with thanks to Pat Dukes). There is a discreet herbal tea element to the super-fresh and beautifully elegant nose that strikes me as being right at an inflection point where the aromas are now turning toward the secondary. There is a really lovely underlying tension to the dense and mineral-driven medium weight flavors that possess a sophisticated texture, all wrapped in an admirably long and balanced if ever-so-slightly lean finish that belies a trace of austerity. For my taste, this super-clean tasting effort has largely arrived at the front edge of its peak drinkability though it should easily hold there for another decade.’ - Allen Meadows, Burghound, 91/100 (Jan 2023)
‘Light to medium colour with pale rim. The bouquet suggests maturity. On the palate the fruit is a little fresher, cherry stones griottes, the acidity is now nicely integrated and the length is there. Good result in a difficult year, building nicely to the back.’ - Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy, 91/100 (June 2018)‘
'The 2008 Nuits St. Georges Clos de la Maréchale offers up black cherries, sweet spices, flowers and licorice, all of which meld together beautifully in a weightless, impeccably elegant style. Floral, minty notes add complexity and nuance on the refined finish.’ - Antonio Galloni, Vinous, 92/100 (May 2011)
