About this Item
Etienne Grivot took over from his father in 1990, becoming the fifth-generation Grivot to be making wine in Vosne-Romanée. In 1994, Etienne started to find his own voice and make a range of very fine wines. He has since reduced yields, fine-tuned his work in both the vineyards and the cellar, and driven quality steadily upwards. The grapes are 100% destemmed and the fermentation is allowed to begin naturally. Four cooperages are used to avoid the signature of any one particular barrel maker. Now assisted by his two children, Mathilde and Hubert, Etienne produces a range of stunning wines which possess real depth and class. When asked for his secret to success, he owns that ‘there’s no recipe, it’s very personal and as a result it’s very frustrating as one is never content’.
Richebourg is one of the most esteemed Grand Cru vineyards in Burgundy, situated in the Vosne-Romanée appellation. Known for producing wines of exceptional quality and complexity, Richebourg wines are highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts around the world.

‘As one would expect given the super-hot vintage conditions this is extremely ripe though it stops short of displaying roasted fruit on the markedly spicy, plum and violet-inflected nose that presently exhibits virtually no secondary nuances. The dense, powerful and robust flavors possess huge size and weight before terminating in a palate coating finish that delivers impressive length. While this is a first-rate 2003, I can't say that it appeals to me. That said, quality is quality and style is style and this is undeniably a wine of quality whether it appeals to me or not.’ - Allen Meadows, Burghound.com, 94/100 (June 2017)
Deep ruby-red. Very reticent but pure aromas of black raspberry, minerals and menthol. Lush on entry, then precise and backward in the middle, with an almost medicinal austerity and outstanding concentration. This expands and explodes on the back end, coating the palate with black cherry, bitter chocolate and mineral flavors. A rare case of a 2003 that seems as primary as most '04s are today, and that will require extended bottle aging. One of the early superstars of the vintage.’ - Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, 95+/100 (March 2006)
