About this Item

2009 Gevrey-Chambertin
3 (1 x 3) 750ml

Domaine Robert Groffier Père & Fils is a winery in the Morey-Saint-Denis commune of the Côte de Nuits in Burgundy. A majority of the producer's vineyards are in Chambolle-Musigny and Gevrey-Chambertin where it makes a range of grand and premier cru wines, mostly from Burgundy's prized red variety, Pinot Noir. The domaine has been in the Groffier family since the 19th Century when it was established by Frederick Groffier. Robert Groffier took over in the mid-20th Century and the estate began to bottle its own wine.

Gevrey-Chambertin is one of the most esteemed appellations in Burgundy, known for producing robust and complex Pinot Noir wines. The village is home to some of the most famous vineyard sites in the Côte de Nuits, including several grand cru and premier cru parcels.

Critics Ratings

‘A perfumed nose of Gevrey style earth and dark berry fruit aromas leads to round, supple and delicious medium-bodied flavors that possess an attractive mouth feel and good vibrancy on the moderately long and solidly complex finish. This is a very pretty and stylish villages that, like several wines in the range, is likely to mature relatively early. Indeed, this could already be enjoyed now.’ - Allen Meadows, Burghound.com (Jan 2012)

‘Boysenberry, black currant and meaty, spicy aromas and flavors mark this beefy red. The tannins are assertive, dominating the finish, yet seem more from wood than grape, so give this time. Just a bit pinched in the end. Best from 2015 through 2030.’ - Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator

‘Good full red. Very ripe, musky nose combines black raspberry, meat and leather. Slightly roasted, lush and sweet, with leather and torrefaction notes to go with the dark fruit flavors. Quite full in the mouth, and a bit warm on the back end. Probably best for drinking over the next few years.’ - Stephen Tanzer, Vinous (March 2012)
