About this Item

2012 La Guiraude Crozes-Hermitage
2 (1 x 2) 750ml

Alain Graillot's La Guiraude Crozes-Hermitage is a flagship wine of the estate, made exclusively from Syrah grapes sourced from selected vineyard sites within the appellation. Crozes-Hermitage is one of the largest appellations in the Northern Rhône Valley and is known for producing high-quality Syrah wines. While not as prestigious as the neighboring Hermitage and Côte-Rôtie appellations, Crozes-Hermitage wines offer excellent value and represent some of the best expressions of Syrah in the region.

Critics Ratings

‘Deep cherry red. Gleaming. Herbal and peppery – inviting and lively. Just a touch reductive (struck match) but none the worse for that. On the palate, again slightly herbal but also deep and firm. Still young but not in the least tough.’ - Julia Harding MW, JancisRobinson.com, 17/20 (Sep 2015)

‘Very solid, with a core of licorice, plum cake and raspberry coulis, all framed with singed alder and tobacco notes. The dark, smoldering finish is lined with a hint of white pepper, adding range and contrast. Drink now through 2018.’ - James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 92/100

‘Opaque ruby. Sexy, mineral-accented aromas of black raspberry, potpourri and Asian spices. Juicy, sappy and densely packed, offering intense red and dark berry liqueur and floral pastille flavors enlivened by zesty acidity. Vibrant, appealingly sweet Crozes with excellent focus, harmonious tannins and strong finishing cut.’ - Josh Raynolds, Vinous, 92/100 (March 2014)

‘Also outstanding, the 2012 Crozes Hermitage La Guiraude is a smaller production cuvee and is a selection of the top barrels. It’s more showy and open than the classical cuvee at the moment, but it doesn’t seem any more concentrated or rich, and I’m not sure it’s any better. Showing plenty of sweet fruit, toasted spice and licorice, it’s medium to full-bodied, polished and creamily textured on the palate. Enjoy this beauty over the coming 7-8 years.’ - Jeb Dunnuck, Wine Advocate, 90/100
