in two parts, the rectangular openwork fire basket with scroll side handles, raised on a pair of cobra andirons, and an associated poker

Notes

Kurt Jobst was born in 1905 and emigrated to South Africa in 1935, setting up his workshop in Johannesburg.

Although he is best known as a goldsmith and silversmith, he was proficient in a number of skills including blacksmithing, enamel work, metal engraving and wood carving.

Provenance

From the Late Lady Ina Oppenheimer Blue Bird Farm Collection.

This piece was commissioned for the Blue Bird farm.
