About this Item

Cape Regency yellowwood and stinkwood brass-inlaid jonkmanskas, c. 1830-1850

140cm high, 108,5cm wide, 51cm deep

Notes

The jonkmanskas is a 19th century item of storage furniture unique to the Cape and characterized by two drawers below the top of the cupboard.

The brass inlay on this jonkmanskas is extremely rare and is likely to have come from England or Europe where it was the practice of European brass manufacturers to provide these ready-made inlay patterns for carpenters.
