About this Item

2011 Crozes Hermitage
3 (1 x 3) 750ml

Domaine Alain Graillot is a top wine producer located in Crozes-Hermitage in the northern Rhône, becoming a benchmark for the appellation and a Syrah icon! Alain founded the Domaine in 1985, releasing his first vintage from a rented vineyard. The Domaine quickly rose to prominence and only three years after its establishment, Graillot purchased the vineyards he had been renting. The Domaine was handed over to son Maxine, but the wines continue in the same style and quality. Classically styled and able to age well for many decades, Alain sadly passed in 2022.

Crozes-Hermitage is one of the largest and most prestigious appellations in the Northern Rhône Valley, known for producing excellent Syrah wines. The vineyards are located on the left bank of the Rhône River, with a variety of soils, including granite, limestone, and clay, contributing to the diversity of the wines produced in the region.

Critics Ratings

‘Bright purple. Black raspberry, cherry pit, smoky bacon and licorice on the pungent nose. Fleshy and expansive, offering deep red and dark berry flavors and a note of candied violet. Picks up spiciness with air and finishes on a smoky dark berry note, with noteworthy thrust and silky, even tannins.’ – Josh Raynolds, Vinous, 90/100 (Mar 2014)

‘Made by Maxime, who also runs the négociant business Equis specialising in old vines. Mid crimson. Engaging perfume. Bone dry. Silky texture. Very juicy. Not intense but friendly.’ – Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 16/20 (Sep 2013)

‘An enticing style, with a juicy, briary feel undercutting the layers of boysenberry, fig and raspberry fruit, while singed alder, juniper and bay fill in the background. Shows lots of range and solid depth for the vintage. Drink now through 2020.’ – James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 91/100 (Oct 2013)
