About this Item

2010 Cambrien La Pleiade
1 (1 x 1) 750ml

Michel’s Chapoutier’s landholding, track record and incredible consistency from entry-level wines through to the single-vineyards is unparalleled in the world of wine. Chapoutier ranked 4th in 2019 amongst the “World's Most Admired Wine Brands“. Chapoutier is one of the oldest names in the Rhone valley. Founded in 1808 by the Calvet family, it was sold to the Chapoutier family in 1855. Today, Michel Chapoutier is the reference-point for the entire Rhône Valley, especially with their single vineyard Sélections Parcellaires. In fact, Robert Parker has praised Chapoutier’s Northern Rhône’s as some of the world’s finest wines.

This wine is a collaboration project of M. Chapoutier and Ron Laughton of Jasper Hill. In the spring of 1998 a vineyard using Australian shiraz clones and imported French clones was planted. The vineyard is run biodynamically, and the winemaking is deliberately designed to place maximum emphasis on the fruit quality.

Critics Ratings

'Planted in 1998 next to Georgia's Paddock. Intense, juicy and firm. Blind, I wouldn’t go straight to Oz. Half the vines came from Chapoutier. All dry farmed. Spicy and dry. Excellent. Long.’ – Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 17/20 (Sep 2013)

‘Cambriens is a small vineyard operation/partnership between Michel Chapoutier (renowned for his Rhone Valley cuvees) and the Laughton family, who claim to possess some of Heathcote’s as well as Australia’s finest soils. Cropped at a measly 8 hectoliters per hectare, this spectacular 200-case garagiste debut release exhibits a dense purple color along with gorgeous aromas of smoke, graphite, white chocolate, black currants, sweet berries, and notions of mocha as well as espresso. Full-bodied yet extraordinarily precise and elegant, this beautifully made, pure, intense, seamlessly constructed Shiraz possesses considerable tannin, and should age effortlessly for 10-15 years. Kudos to Michel Chapoutier and the Laughton family.’ – Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, 95/100 (Oct 2004)
