About this Item
Domaine Trimbach is a 400-year-old family business and produces, arguably, ‘the single most admired dry Riesling made anywhere’ according to Jancis Robinson. This bastion of classical winemaking has, over 13 generations, become ‘the most famous Riesling estate in all Alsace’ writes Wine Advocate. Today, the property is run by the 12th generation who continue the tradition of terroir-driven, dry Rieslings. Their most famous wine, Clos Sainte Hune is sourced from a 1.67-hectare plot within the Rosacker Grand Cru, which has been family-owned for more than 200 years. Wine Advocate writes that consumers find the Clos Sainte Hune to be ‘one of the finest dry Rieslings on the planet’.
Handpicked as late as possible from the two grand cru sites of Geisberg and Osterberg in order to achieve maximum ripeness, which in turn, gives optimum depth of flavor and complexity. This wine is named after Frédéric Emile Trimbach, who played a significant role in the family's winemaking history.

Critics Ratings
2008:
‘Light nose needs coaxing out of the glass. Absolutely bone dry and SO youthful! Tension and too austere to charm at present. You have to take this on trust for the moment.’ – Jancis Robinson, JancisRobinson.com, 17+/20 (Mar 2018)
‘This prestige cuvée is named after the man who started this Alsace wine dynasty, now in the hands of the 13th generation. Always a near-peerless Riesling, this new release is bone dry, structured and elegant, with savoury, nutty, autumnal notes and tangy citrus acidity. It's poised, powerful, complex and concentrated, with a seam of brisk yuzu-like acidity to complement the creamy nougat notes.’ – Tina Gellie, Decanter.com, 96/100 (Feb 2018)
‘The 2008 Riesling Cuvée Frédéric Emile is now in the market and readers shouldn't miss seeking it out. This is a gorgeously matured dry Riesling classic from Ribeauvillé that drinks perfectly today and pairs with many kind of dishes. The wine has an intense citrus color and opens with a very clear, deep, dense and aromatic bouquet of dried fruits along with herbal and mineral aromas. Full-bodied, pure and elegant, yet complex and mineral on the palate, this is a silky textured but well-structured dry Riesling with intense and persistent fruit, fine tannins and lingering salinity. Bottled April 2009, this is a great dry Riesling blend from the Grands Crus Geisberg and Osterberg.’ – Stephan Reinhardt, Wine Advocate, 96/100 (Jun 2017)
‘A perfumed note of citrus peel and soft pine create a bracing nose that nonetheless suggests ripeness. The body is lithe and light, with a backdrop of stone and subtle nuttiness. With a little more air, the characteristic notes of mature Riesling appear: some lifted chamomile and candied orange peel, but only in their early stages. This is a wine of immense depth and deceptive lightness that has years of life ahead. Drink through 2030.’ – Anne Krebiehl MW, Wine Enthusiast, 95/100 (Apr 2016)
2011:
‘The nose is driven by Granny Smith apples that intermingle with yellow plum and subtle jasmine aromas. It is nicely defined, though it was given a run for its money by Mittnacht’s Riesling. The palate is poised, with fine acidity and bite, moderate length and a mineral-driven, slightly petrolly finish. This is not the greatest Frédéric Emile I have encountered, but it is maturing well, if at its own leisurely pace.’ – Neal Martin, Vinous, 92/100 (Oct 2020)
‘Lovely spice and smoke notes lead the way in this firm, linear white, accenting poached apple, chopped almond, dried thyme and lemon pith flavors on the harmonious palate. Best from 2019 through 2029.’ – Alison Napjus, Wine Spectator, 93/100 (Nov 2017)
‘Trimbach’s 2011 Riesling Cuvee Frederic Emile leads with a fascinating nose mingling quinine and smoky black tea with the more usual lime, white peach and crushed chalk. Silken-textured and generously juicy, with hauntingly bittersweet inner-mouth floral perfume, it opens-up in an infectiously juicy manner one seldom expects from youthful exemplars of this cuvee, thus drinking-well before one is able to purchase it! (But at least you can safely count on savoring it in its elegant prime through at least 2025.) Lentil sprout, peach kernel, and almond oil add to the diversity of flavors already intimated on the nose in a superbly sustained, bell-clear and invigorating as well as surprisingly and delightfully buoyant finish.’ – David Schildknecht, Wine Advocate, 93/100 (Aug 2014)
