About this Item
Domaine Lafarge Vial is a well-established winery in Beaujolais, founded by Frédéric Lafarge and his wife Chantal in the spring of 2014. Situated in the commune of Fleurie, the domaine owns several vineyard parcels in Fleurie and one small adjoining parcel in Chiroubles within the lieu-dit Bel-Air.
Clos Vernay is a specific vineyard within the Fleurie appellation. It is known for its unique terroir, characterized by granite soils, which impart a distinctive minerality to the wines. The vineyard is enclosed (hence "Clos"), which is relatively rare in Beaujolais, and provides a unique microclimate.
La Joie u Palais is a special cuvée that comes from select parcels within the Fleurie appellation, including some of the estate's best plots.

Lafarge Vial Fleurie Clos Vernay 2015
‘Deep ruby. A complex, expansive bouquet evokes ripe cherry and raspberry, along with musky floral and earth notes. Stains the palate with sweet red fruit, lavender pastille and spicecake flavors that deepen and spread out steadily on the back half. Delivers a suave blend of richness and energy and finishes extremely long and juicy, displaying harmonious tannins and resonating florality.’ – Josh Raynolds, Vinous, 93/100 (Dec 2017)
‘This is also beautifully elegant while offering a different expression with its cool, pure and equally well-layered nose of spicy and overtly floral red cherry aromas that are cut with plenty of humus-inflected earth. There is a refined yet marked intensity to the delineated middle weight flavors that terminate in a strikingly long and mineral-driven finish that is shaped by very firm but not hard or even especially austere tannins. This too is remarkably good and if you've got the patience to cellar it for at least a few years, would make a great choice.’ - Allen Meadows, Burghound.com, 92/100 (Apr 2017)
'Very firm and punchy with lots of racy minerals on the end. Nothing heavy about this – very distinctive. Not like the Beaujolais norm. Polished tannins. Very chewy end. Long peacock’s tail on the finish. Beautiful texture.’ – Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 16.5++/20 (Nov 2016)
Lafarge Vial Fleurie La Joie du Palais 2015
‘This offers an additional step up in terms of elegance and complexity with its well-layered nose of red and dark raspberry, warm earth, violet and lovely spice wisps. The sense of refinement continues on the slightly punchier and seductively textured medium-bodied flavors that exude a subtle minerality on the tautly muscular, firm and impressively long finish. This is terrific and absolutely worth considering.’ - Allen Meadows, Burghound.com, 93/100 (Apr 2017)
‘Complex nose with layers. For the long term. Richness and vegy savour. Keep this!’ – Jancis Robinson MW, Jancis Robinson.com, 16.5+/20 (Nov 2016)
