About this Item

1989 Vouvray Demi-Sec
1 (1 x 1) 750ml

Domaine de Pouvray is a winery located in the Loire Valley, France, an area renowned for its high-quality wines that can age for many decades. The first vines were planted in the early 1930’s at the 40 ha old estate located in Vouvray. It is produced from the Chenin Blanc grape in varying degrees of sweetness depending on the vintage. The underground cellar is carved out of Tuffeau, providing perfect natural conditions to age the wines.

The consecutive harvests of 1989 and 1990 are widely acknowledged as producing two of the greatest Loire vintages of the 20th Century,’ notes Loire expert Richard Kelley MW.

Critics Ratings

'The 1989 Domaine de Pouvray is just brilliant and has held its own in blind tastings against the greats of Domaine Huet. Typically demi-sec Vouvray in character, it’s bright, textured and mineral with masses of yellow fruit, straw and a hint of spice. The off-dry mid-palate is seamlessly balanced, finishing in a long, dry and savoury tail. Along with the fine 2002, the 1989 will keep ageing for another decade or two.' - Wine Cellar

'There aren't many Domaines that have commercial stock as mature as this. The wine is holding up incredibly well, if you tasted blind you have no idea that this wine is 32 years old. Straw gold in colour with that gorgeous, fusty, Chenin nose, and a little kiss of sweetness left just to remind you that it's Demi-Sec.' - Noblegrape.co.uk (2021)
