About this Item

2009 Saint-Émilion
2 (1 x 2) 750ml

Château Grand Mayne is a Grand Cru Classé wine estate located in the center of the Saint-Émilion region in Bordeaux. Owned and managed by the Nony family, the estate has been a Grand Cru Classé since 1955. Here, vines averaging 35 years old and planted with 75% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon are deeply rooted in clay-limestone and sandy soil. This geological mosaic is what makes the vineyards so special, and leads to the production of wines with a variety of aromatic expression. The climate is typical of the region. Conditions are mild and temperate thanks to the proximity of the Atlantic Ocean.

Critics Ratings

‘The 2009 Grand Mayne has an opulent bouquet with well defined kirsch and red plum aromas, hints of cough candy emerge with time. It remains focused and precise. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, layers of candied red fruit laced with orange peel and marmalade. It builds beautifully towards the finish. Excellent.’ – Neal Martin, Vinous, 94/100 (Feb 2020)

‘A ripe wine, very open and smooth. The tannins are dark, but it is the fruit—blackberry and red plums—that comes right through. Look beneath this charm, and there is also a wine with more structure, perfumed and ageworthy.’ – Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, 94/100 (Feb 2012)

‘Very dark, with almost heady blueberry and plum confiture flavors at the core, wrapped with extra cassis and boysenberry notes. Long and liberally laced with toast and mocha, with a licorice snap edge on the finish. Best from 2014 through 2024.’ – James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 91/100 (Mar 2012)

‘This is a full-throttle effort filled with blueberry and black raspberry fruit, perhaps slightly more oak than oakaphobes would prefer, but a full-bodied, concentrated, ageworthy style. Sweet tannin, low acidity and ripe fruit suggest this well-made St.-Emilion should drink nicely for 15-20 years.’ – Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, 93/100 (Dec 2011)

‘Inky core. Dark, pure and restrained fruit on the nose with some cedary freshness. Very sweet fruit but allied with upright tannins, which increase the freshness. Good finish – juicy but becoming nicely dry at the very end.’ – Julia Harding MW, JancisRobinson.com, 17/20 (Oct 2011)
