Critics Ratings
2010:
‘Creamy lemon nose. Slightly grassy on the palate. Crystal clear, dry and very refreshing. Marked persistence and a long stony finish.’ – Julia Harding MW, JancisRobinson.com, 17/20 (Oct 2012)
‘Compelling 2010 is riper & fuller than herbaceous 2009. Rich, creamy texture from full oak treatment doesn’t detract from focused passionfruit & citrus fruit. Splash semillon adds extra zest. Mouthfilling, with good length.’ - Platter's SA Wine Guide 2012, 4.5*
2011:
‘Classy 2011 continues fine form. More brioche & aromatics than ordinary version, with similar waxy nuance from dash of semillon. Seamless integration of fruit, acidity & oak – showing elegant restraint in youth.’ - Platter's SA Wine Guide 2013, 4.5*
‘The 2011 Sauvignon Blanc Reserve is blended with 10% Semillon and is whole bunch pressed. It has an attractive bouquet with nectarine, grapefruit and hints of mandarin that emerge with aeration (incidentally, a second bottle displayed a heightened mineral component that lent it a real Loire-like freshness and vitality.) The palate is well-balanced with a fine citric thread and a lovely lemongrass-tinged phenolic finish. This is an intriguing, pleasurable Sauvignon Blanc from winemaker Duncan Savage. Drink now-2016.’ – Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, 92/100 (Oct 2013)
2013:
‘Seductively subtle, with spicy perfume and wild nettle notes, borne on creamy lees texture, partly wooded 2013 shows real class.’ – Platter’s SA Wine Guide 2015, 4*
'A wine that reflects its wind-blown site as much as its variety, this is another impressive Reserve bottling from Cape Point, showing skillful oak handling and remarkable focus, line and length. Stony and wild with a tangy finish that goes on for over a minute. Drink: 2015-20.' – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2015, 94/100
'The 2013 Sauvignon Blanc is blended with 8% Semillon and raised in 600-liter French barrels. There is a lovely touch of licorice that comes through on the nose that is full of character and vigor. The palate is well-balanced with superb weight and that menthol character just coming through on the finish.' – Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, 92/100 (Oct 2014)
