About this Item

2009, 2010 Chianti Classico Riserva
2 (1 x 2) 750ml

Fèlsina is a leading wine estate in Chianti Classico, founded in 1966. It is situated at the southeast edge of the Classico appellation. The estate extends to over 350 hectares of which 75 hectares of vineyards are planted with Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malvasia, and Chardonnay. It was once one of many estates owned by the Dukes of Tuscany and was farmed mainly by sharecroppers growing olives until World War II. Today it is one of the leading estates in Chianti Classico.

Critics Ratings

2009:
‘The 2009 Chianti Classico Riserva is stunningly beautiful. It boasts a great core of dark red fruit, licorice, spices, new leather and herbs. The 2009 impresses for its mid-palate density and sheer power. This is a great showing. The 2009 can be enjoyed today, but it is rather muscular, and is probably best suited for aging a few years. This is a terrific showing. A recent bottle of the 1995 was stunning in its beauty. The Riserva is 100% Sangiovese aged in a combination of casks and smaller French oak barrels. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2029.’ – Antonio Galloni, Wine Advocate, 93/100 (Jun 2012)

‘100% Sangiovese. Cask sample. Oenologist Franco Bernabei. Concentrated ruby with violet reflexes. Intoxicating, sweet, with noticeable oak impact and notes of leather. Flirty. Attractive cherry palate, with acidic bite. Creamy notes on the finish. Well made, good length, but somewhat international.’ – Walter Speller, JancisRobinson.com, 16/20 (Feb 2011)

2010:
‘This gorgeous Chianti Classico has multifaceted aromas of blue flower, red berry, black plum, spice and a whiff of leather. The structured, juicy palate offers a core of ripe black cherry accented by cinnamon-spice and a touch of mocha alongside firm, polished tannins. It has both structure and finesse and should age beautifully. Drink 2015–2022.’ – Kerin O’Keefe, Wine Enthusiast, 93/100 (Apr 2014)

‘The 2010 Chianti Classico Riserva is host to a beautiful mix of black mineral, fruit, dried mint and eucalyptus. The wine shows elegant evolution in the glass and backs it up with dry, polished tannins. This is a stunning effort available at a reasonable price. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2028. This is one of the nicest collections of new releases by Giuseppe Mazzocolin’s Felsina.’ – Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, 93/100 (Aug 2013)

‘Black cherry, plum, smoke and menthol notes all jump out of the glass. The 2010 is translucent yet also rich, powerful and impeccably balanced. Ideally readers should cellar the 2010 for at least a few years, but that is going to be difficult considering how beautiful the wine is today.’ – Antonio Galloni, Vinous, 92+/100 (Aug 2013)

‘Firm and juicy, exhibiting raspberry, cherry, black tea and tobacco flavors. An earthy element emerges on the long and grippy finish. Drink now through 2022.’ – Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator, 90/100 (Aug 2013)
