About this Item

2015 Barbaresco
2 (1 x 2) 750ml

Produttori del Barbaresco is a producer of red wines from the Nebbiolo grape in the Barbaresco appellation. As well as being one of the very finest and best-known producers in Barbaresco, it is also regarded as one of the greatest wine cooperatives in the world. An earlier cooperative, founded in 1894, had established Barbaresco as a separate wine district rather than just a supplier of Barolo, but it was closed down in the 1930s due to Mussolini's economic policies. By 1958, the priest of the village of Barbaresco realized that the only way the small growers of the area would survive was if they joined together. He united 19 growers under the Produttori del Barbaresco name, and the first three vintages were made in the church basement before the operation was moved across the village square to the current winery.

Produttori del Barbaresco is a cooperative of 51 growers that controls more than 100 hectares of premium Nebbiolo vineyards in Barbaresco. This wine is a blend of Nebbiolo fruit harvested from different vineyards. Thanks to the variety of vineyards, every year the Barbaresco from the "Produttori" is the truest expression of the vintage and of the land.

Critics Ratings

‘Rose petal, dark spice and camphor aromas slowly take shape in the glass along with a whiff of tar. Juicy and delicious, the smooth full-bodied palate has a weightless elegance, delivering succulent Marasca cherry, ripe raspberry, licorice and tobacco while fine-grained tannins provide support. Drink 2021–2027.’ – Kerin O’Keefe, Wine Enthusiast, 93/100 (Feb 2019)

'Concentrated ruby. Lots of concentrated, sweet cherry fruit and grainy tannins and plenty of acidity, too. Generous, tannic and long with youthful vigour but can be approached now. Good ageing potential.’ – Walter Speller, JancisRobinson.com, 17+/20 (Jun 2018)

‘Charming aromas of cherry, strawberry and rose are inviting in this red, with flavors to match, showing ripeness and focus. Earth and mineral elements chime in as this firms up, but the harmony is there and this should really sing in about five years. Best from 2022 through 2040.’ – Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator, 93/100 (Dec 2018)

‘The 2015 Barbaresco, bottled in March 2018, is surprisingly potent. Then again, the 2015 is the product of a warm year often characterized by wines with rich fruit and equally big, sometimes coarse, tannins. Succulent red cherry, mint, white pepper and crushed flowers all show the finessed side of Nebbiolo. A hint of new oak needs time to fully integrate, but that should not be an issue in time.’ – Antonio Galloni, Vinous, 90+/100 (Aug 2018)

‘The 2015 vintage opens to a visibly darker color and thicker concentration compared to recent past vintages. Next to the upcoming 2016 and 2017 editions, we can expect 2015 to be the most fruit-forward of the three. You get dark tones of plum and blackberry with dry tannins at the rear.’ – Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, 93/100 (Jun 2018)
