About this Item
Compañía Bodeguera Valenciso is a boutique winery located in the heart of the Rioja Alta region in Spain. Founded in 1998 by Luis Valentin and Carmen Enciso, the winery is dedicated to producing limited quantities of high-quality, terroir-driven wines that showcase the essence of Rioja. It was highly regarded by Robert Parker with its powerful, modern style. The winery's vineyards, situated in the Rioja Alta, are primarily planted with Tempranillo grapes. Valenciso's meticulous approach to winemaking, including long aging in French oak barrels, results in wines that are powerful, elegant, and age-worthy.

Critics Ratings
2012:
‘Earthy, slightly exotic aromas are unusual and suggest blueberry and tea. In the mouth, this is widespread and saturated. Grapey flavors are heavy and include a helping of toast, while this is dry, chewy and tannic on a finish that hints at oxidation.’ – Michael Schachner, Wine Enthusiast (Sep 2020)
‘Valenciso's 2012 Reserva has more stuffing and power than the 2011 and comes from a year that was saved by some rains in September and big temperature contrasts between day and night. It's very tasty, almost salty (the words of Jean Gonon from St Joseph saying "our wines are salty, to be enjoyed with food. There is no room for sweetness in our wines," comes to my mind). It's a modern classical Rioja in the making, still young but showing some development and incipient complexity. These wines develop slowly and nicely in bottle and seem to hit the spot after some eight years after the harvest.’ - Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate, 93+/100 (Jun 2019)
2014:
‘A classic Tempranillo of Rioja character. Perfectly ripe black fruits, with toasty notes from the French oak. In the mouth it is suavely textured, well grained, with cherry and some more savoury notes to finish.’ – Decanter.com, 91/100 (Dec 2021)
‘I tasted again the red 2014 Reserva, which seems to have integrated in bottle since I tasted it some 16 months ago. It's a lighter expression of Valenciso that is developing more complex aromas, and the acidity and tannins are slowly being resolved. They say it's the most modern among the classics and the most classic among modern Reservas. I agree.’ - Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate, 93/100 (Oct 2020)
