About this Item
Vega Sicilia was founded in 1864 by the Don Eloy Lecanda y Chaves and is widely considered as Spain’s leading wine producer! The Alvarez family took over in 1982 providing more consistent quality in their wines over the years. They produce three wines Unico, Valbuena 5° and Vega Sicilia Unico Reserva Especial from their 210 hectares of vines. Their estate in Ribera del Duero is known for its dense, complex red wines made principally from the Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) grape variety and produces, Unico, is one of Spain's most expensive and sought-after wines.
The independent member of the Vega Sicilia family. Pintia is young, intense and ground-breaking in nature. Proud of its origin, it has managed to reinterpret the Vega Sicilia culture in an innovative, brave and daring manner, at the head of the emergence of a new generation of Toro wines.

‘‘This is in great shape at 10 years: a Toro that you don’t have to wait 15 years before it’s at its best’, says Gonzalo Iturriaga, technical director of winemaking. The wine is densely coloured with balsamic, red plum notes and a line of oak. In the mouth it’s vividly fresh, developing a dense, mellow core. Around it there’s a fine line of supple, mature tannins, giving a refreshing savoury finish. All new oak, 75% French, 25% American.’ – Sarah Jane Evans MW, Decanter.com, 94/100 (Jul 2019)
‘Gritty, charred aromas rest on top of core blackberry and cassis scents. This is a blocky, stout number with firm tannins and serious structure. Charred blackberry and dark chocolate are the lead flavors, while this big-boned Toro tastes of toast and mocha on the finish, which is drying and tannic. Drink through 2027.’ – Michael Schachner, Wine Enthusiast, 93/100 (Apr 2016)
‘Inky ruby. Deeply pitched black and blue fruit aromas are complicated by suggestions of smoky Indian spices, vanilla and licorice, with a mineral nuance adding vivacity. Fleshy, broad and appealingly sweet, offering intense blackcurrant and cherry flavors and hints of spicecake and cola. The mineral note comes back strong on the still youthfully tannic finish, adding lift and cut.’ – Josh Raynolds, Vinous, 93/100 (Dec 2015)
‘Very pure and very intense. Impeccable clarity of fruit, but the result is really not hugely different from hot climate Cabernet.’ – Richard Hemming MW, JancisRobinson.com, 16.5/20 (Mar 2015)
‘The bouquet is very Bordeaux-like with black rather than red fruit, fine minerality and touches of graphite and cedar. The palate is medium-bodied with plump, rounded tannins, a firm structure and great precision on the finish. This is what you might call a “classic” Pintia that already demonstrates great breeding and sophistication toward the finish.’ – Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, 95/100 (Apr 2013)
