About this Item

2010 Redoma Tinto
4 (1 x 4) 750ml

The Niepoort family has been creating Port wines since 1842, and the house is considered of the best in the region. The house owns a number of qunitas, or vineyards, throughout the Douro Valley, and recently also the Dão and Bairrada regions. The well-traveled Dirk Niepoort joined the family business in 1987 and added still table wines to the large portfolio of Ports that the house produces. In fact, Dirk is a pioneer of table wines in Portugal and, as with all Dirk’s projects around the world, his focus is on traditionally made wines that offer elegance while showcasing terroir.

First made in 1991, Redoma Tinto was Niepoort’s original commercial Douro DOC release and is regarded as the “Douro ambassador”—that is to say, more rustic. Grapes from old, north-facing vineyards (more than 60 years old), ranging from 100–500m above sea level at Quinta de Nápoles and in the Pinhão Valley, form the backbone of Redoma. The main grape varieties are Tinta Amarela, Tinta Roriz and Touriga Franca.

Critics Ratings

‘Taut and sinewy, with a grainy texture to the dark fruit flavors, featuring plenty of tannic grip. Finishes with notes of savory herb, iron and hot stone. Drink now through 2016.’ – Kim Marcus, Wine Spectator (Jun 2013)

'The 2010 Redoma is the latest iteration of Niepoort’s familiar brand. It is an old-vine blend aged 30% in 2,000-liter old oak and the rest in 228-liter French oak. Niepoort says that 20-50% of the stems were used in order to obtain a fresher character. My favorite of the 2010 reds here, this is bright, delicious and gripping. While bigger than Batuta (not so unusual), in this vintage Redoma is a bit understated. That said, it proves its persistence easily, showing quite charmingly and with a sunny demeanor the next day as well. This gracefully constructed wine has tension and grip on the finish, a little bit of tannic pop and the fruit to blend with the structure. The oak was obvious on opening, but that will integrate with time and it showed better in that regard the following day. Of Niepoort’s 2010s, it likely has the highest upside. Drink now-2024.' - Mark Squires, Wine Advocate, 91/100 (Feb 2013)
