Critics Ratings
2010:
‘Utterly satisfying, weighty 2010 back on form after lighter 2009 (4 stars) with rich nuttiness from barrel & time on lees. Perfect harmony between oak & fruit, with sublime texture, deliciously rich fruit flavours & pithy, minerally finish.’ - Platter’s SA Wine Guide 2012, 4.5*
‘Sourced from 18-year old vines, barrel fermented and aged for 8 months in barrel, the 2010 Semillon has a very pretty bouquet with hints of nectarine, apricot and pithy fruit. The palate is well balanced, ostensibly a commercial style Semillon but it is clean and nicely poised with attractive apricot and apple-blossom flavours towards the finish. Drink now-2014.’ – Neal Martin, Wine Advocate (Aug 2011)
‘40% new oak. Grassy with some toastiness but also mandarin and citrus notes. Lovely fruit expression.’ – Wineanorak.com, 90/100 (Mar 2011)
2015:
‘The 2015 Semillon spent nine months in oak barrel. It has a light but agreeable dried honey and beeswax scented bouquet that needs more vigor to develop. The palate is balanced with crisp acidity, light leafy and nettle notes on the entry (almost like a Sauvignon Blanc) that leads to a simple finish that seems afraid to express varietal character. This is a little disappointing after the 2013 Semillon.’ – Neal Martin, Wine Advocate (Apr 2017)
