About this Item
Eagles’ Nest is cradled in a secluded valley high up on the slopes of the historic Constantia mountain range, which forms part of the World Heritage Site, Table Mountain. The farm’s origins can be traced back to 1836 when it was used as a refreshment station between the area now known as Wynberg in the east, and the harbour of Hout Bay in the west. In order to make this journey, travellers had to cross the mountain pass, now known as Constantia Neck.
In 1984, the 38ha farm was purchased by the Mylrea family. After devastating fires that raged through the Cape in the summer of 2000, the farm was mostly destroyed, except for the historic buildings. Being part of the world famous Constantia Valley, known for its award winning wines, they decided to plant the farm with varieties that best suited the unique terroir of Eagles’ Nest.

Critics Ratings
‘Trademark blue & black fruit on 2015, with spicy dried herb nuances from elevated cool site. Integrated, refined & elegant, if tad sweeter than stellar 2014 (5 stars, 95 pts). Firm oak (40% new for 18 months) cradles fruit to lengthy conclusion. Also in 1.5L.’ - Platter's SA Wine Guide 2019, 4.5* (93/100)
‘One of the first South African Shirazes to reach a world market, this is still an impressive red. The 2015 is showing a little reduction, but will emerge from its shell. It has plenty of structure and dark, savoury fruit, with a twist of black pepper. 2020-25’ - Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2018, 93/100
‘Simple black fruit, saved from obscurity by delicious black-pepper scent on the finish. Light and reasonably short, but enjoyable while it lasts.’ – Richard Hemming MW, JancisRobinson.com, 16/20 (Sep 2018)
‘The 2015 Shiraz comes from vines located in cool sites at 350 meters to 420 meters above sea level, and underwent malolactic in tank and 18 months in 40% French oak. It has a very pure bouquet of black cherry and blueberry fruit seductively complemented by menthol scents. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, a fine bead of acidity, smooth texture and a nicely poised finish that offers impressive tension. This is very promising, but it needs a couple more years to develop more personality.’ – Neal Martin, Vinous, 91/100 (Aug 2018)
