About this Item
Often described as the South African equivalent of a Grand Cru or First Growth, Kanonkop Estate is situated on the Simonsberg mountain slopes on the outskirts of Stellenbosch. Owned by the fourth generation Krige family,
The Cabernet Sauvignon forms part of the 3-tiered, reds only fine offering under the Kanonkop label. Renowned for decades of ageing, Kanonkop’s Cabernet Sauvignon is austere when young and ages with grace.

Critics Ratings
'From vines that are 25 years old on average, maturation lasted 24 months in French oak, 50% new. The nose shows dark fruit, mint, graphite, molasses and a slight rubber-like note. The palate is sweet, rich and smooth textured and yet somehow not short of vibrancy. It’s intensely flavoured and basically gives the impression of being indestructible.' - Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 91/100 (Apr 2019)
'The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon spent 24 months in 50% new and 50% second-fill French oak. It has very good lift on the nose and a touch more definition and red fruit compared to the previous vintage. The palate is well balanced, with fine-grained tannin, and chewy in the mouth at first but finding more precision toward the black-pepper-tinged finish. Give this well-made Cabernet another year in bottle.' - Neal Martin, Vinous (Aug 2018)
'Pure Cabernets are surprisingly hard to find in Stellenbosch, such is the growing fashion for Bordeaux blends, but this comparatively large volume example is scented, leafy and refined, with tobacco pouch and wild herb aromas and some of the cool elegance of the 2014 vintage. 2020-28' - Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2018, 94/100
