About this Item
Often described as the South African equivalent of a Grand Cru or First Growth, Kanonkop Estate is situated on the Simonsberg mountain slopes on the outskirts of Stellenbosch. Owned by the fourth generation Krige family,
The Cabernet Sauvignon forms part of the 3-tiered, reds only fine offering under the Kanonkop label. Renowned for decades of ageing, Kanonkop’s Cabernet Sauvignon is austere when young and ages with grace.

Critics Ratings
‘The 2004 Kanonkop Cabernet Sauvignon has an intriguing bouquet: blackberry, a touch of espresso, mint and sage – quite intense and focused. The palate is ripe on the entry with dusky, cocoa-tinged black fruit. There is a good line of acidity and focus, segueing toward a more reserved, quite linear finish. This is drinking beautifully now.’ – Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, 90/100 (Oct 2014)
‘Luscious aromas of black cherry, raspberry and coffee are followed by a balanced wave of mocha, plums, vanilla and tobacco on the palate. Spicy with ageable tannins, the wine would go well with roasted meat, beef or stews.’ – Susan Kostrzewa, Wine Enthusiast, 91/100 (Aug 2010)
‘Ripe and full-bodied, offering delicious black currant, fig and licorice snap flavors that glide through the polished finish. A dash of loam adds length. Bottle age has tamed this, but it still has plenty of life. Drink now through 2011.’ – James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 91/100 (Mar 2010)
