About this Item
Often described as the South African equivalent of a Grand Cru or First Growth, Kanonkop Estate is situated on the Simonsberg mountain slopes on the outskirts of Stellenbosch. Owned by the fourth generation Krige family, Abri Beeslaar is their long-term winemaker who has won International Winemaker of the year an incredible 3 times.
The Cabernet Sauvignon forms part of the 3-tiered, reds only fine offering under the Kanonkop label. Renowned for decades of ageing, Kanonkop’s Cabernet Sauvignon is austere when young and ages with grace.

Critics Ratings
‘A powerful, brooding nose of tobacco, smoke and red cherry starts this elegant Cabernet from Kanonkop. On the palate, more warming spices and tobacco, with smooth, ripe tannins that are fine and velvety. Some oak offers spice, but the wine is extremely balanced and food friendly. The lingering finish delivers a spin of red berry and smoke.’ - Susan Kostrzewa, Wine Enthusiast, 90/100 (Mar 2009)
‘After sternly elegant ‘01 and lighter ‘02, the splendid ‘03 is richly elegant, fresh, firmly structured; fruit intensity harmonising with oak (half new), leading to long, satisfyingly savoury finish. Should develop well over 5-10 yrs. WO Simonsberg-Stellenbosch.’ - Platter’s SA Wine Guide 2008, 5*
