About this Item
Ken Forrester Wines was established in the early 1990s after Johannesburg resident and restauranteur, Ken Forrester fell in love with this Stellenbosch property. Together with Martin Meinert, they audaciously created a flagship Chenin Blanc called FMC (Forrester, Meinert Chenin). Sourced from vines planted in 1967, it set the world benchmark for New World Chenin and started SA’s Chenin revolution.
The FMC is "the pinnacle of what we consider the finest expression of the grapes of this varietal – an icon Chenin! Rich, layered with dried apricot, vanilla and honey. It will gain additional complexity with cellaring". Made from 100% Bushvine Chenin Blanc planted in the early '70s. Farmed sustainably and by hand, we nurture the vines through their annual growth cycle until they are ready for harvest.

Critics Ratings
2004:
‘Designed to ‘put Cape chenin indelibly on the map’. Powerful & gorgeous 04 among their best: lush tropical fruit, citrus peel & roasted nuts; voluptuous body with ultra-long, satiny finish. 9.7g/Ÿ sugar tastes dry. Perfect oaking: fermented/9 mths Fr, half new. Native yeasts. Wine µ, IWC gold. Deeply rich 03 heaped with praise; latest incl WS 90 pts, IWSC gold, Winemakers Choice.’ - Platter’s SA Wine Guide 2007, 4.5*
‘Exotic aromas of peach, honey and marmalade. Sweet, fat and stuffed with fruit; the high-toned marmalade and honey character carries through on the palate. This boasts superb material. A piquant bittersweet touch of ruby red grapefruit lifts the finish.’ – Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, 90/100 (Mar 2007)
‘Big, with alluring graham and ginger aromas followed by a layered palate of cardamom, fig, piecrust, nectarine and persimmon. Rich but dry and focused, with a long, detailed finish. Lovely. Drink now through 2010.’ – James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 91/100 (Sep 2006)
2012
‘Messrs Forrester and Meinert’s ‘challenge to the world’, mostly old-vine Chenin Blanc harvested fully ripe and wild-fermented in new oak. Magnificent 2012 with remarkable freshness balancing rich apricot, fynbos honey, kitka bread and savoury spice notes. Stellenbosch WO.’ - Platter’s SA Wine Guide 2015, 4.5*
‘Ken Forrester’s flagship Chenin is fresher and more restrained than the 2011, at least at this stage, but is still true to a well-established style, with pear, apple, quince and pineapple fruit flavours, subtle oak, plenty of texture, 10 grams of residual sugar and a volatile lift.’ - Tim Atkin SA Special Report 2014, 93/100
