About this Item
Established in 2007 by the dynamic husband-and-wife team, Chris and Andrea Mullineux have, in a very short space of time, established Mullineux as one of South Africa’s most celebrated producers. Their track record speaks for itself: Awarded Wine Enthusiast’s International Winemaker of the Year in 2016, Tim Atkin’s SA Winemakers of the Year in 2017 and Five times Platter's Winery of the Year (2014, 2016, 2019, 2020, 2023).
Grapes for the Granite Chenin were sourced from a parcel of sustainably, dry-farmed 43 year old parcel of sustainably and dry farmed bush vines planted in the decomposed Granite soils of the Paardeberg. These very deep decomposed Granite soils tend to produce wines with great acidity and a flinty, stony aromatic profile.
Grapes for the Quartz Chenin were from a single parcel of sustainably farmed 38 years old vines planted in a quartz kloof on the Kasteelberg. This parcel of Chenin gives the best expression of the quartz terroir on the Kasteelberg – fresh minerality.

Mullineux Granite Chenin Blanc 2015:
'A stunning wine, this opens with scents of golden straw, honeydew rind, firm nectarine and fresh honeycomb that all carry through to the medium-weight mouth. The palate boasts a flinty, mineral texture and bright acidity that lends verve and precision to the notes of toasted apple, spiced orange rind and pressed yellow flowers. Hints of fresh herbs and minty fynbos grace the enduring finish. It sure is delicious now, but try this stunner from 2020–2028.' - Lauren Buzzeo, Wine Enthusiast, 93/100 (Apr 2018)
'From granite soils on Perdeberg, 2015 has quiet assurance, purity & elegance. Layered & complex, textural, it’s how it manages to combine fruit - pear & quince - with minerality, even thatch, that impresses. Take your time, it has lots to give.' - Platter's SA Wine Guide 2017, 4.5*
'Intense, sculpted nose. Edgy with honey and richness but finishes absolutely dry with a sucky-stony element – light granite influence? Not cheap though....' - Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 16.5/20 (Oct 2017)
'Even better than last year’s maiden release, this comes from two sites in the Swartland and is fermented in larger, neutral oak. It’s a deliciously poised expression of Chenin with steely acidity, stony minerality and flavours of quince, apple and baking spices. Brilliant winemaking. Drink: 2016-22.' - Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2016, 94/100
Mullineux Quartz Chenin Blanc 2015:
‘From quartz-rich single block. Unfiltered, as all 3, 2015 is richer, has more expressive fruit than Granite, lovely stonefruit throughout, threaded through with livening freshness. Admirable focus & length, as for the rest.’ - Platter's SA Wine Guide 2017, 4.5*
‘The 2015 Quartz Chenin Blanc comes from the Leliefontein vineyard this year, as signified on the label. It has a very different bouquet compared to the Granite Chenin Blanc: much earthier and broody, pressed white flowers, then hazelnut and even a hint of Thai fish oil. The palate is very well balanced with crisp acidity, harmonious and perhaps showing a little more nuance and personality compared to the Granite counterpart. Here, there is fine energy and tension on the finish, with a touch of spice lingering on the finish.’ – Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, 93/100 (Apr 2017)
‘The Quartz Chenin comes from a lower site than the Granite release, located towards Malmesbury. Showing more volume and weight, with dense, textured flavours of pear spice and tropical fruit, this is sensitively oaked and refreshing on the finish. Drink: 2016-19’ - Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2016, 93/100
