About this Item
The family-run Domaine Armand Rousseau is one of Burgundy's oldest and most revered domaines. They own many Grand Cru plots in Gevrey-Chambertin as well as part of the highly sought-after Premier Cru Clos Saint-Jacques vineyard. Established in the early 20th Century by Armand Rousseau, the domaine initially owned small parcels throughout Gevrey-Chambertin. Over the next century, under both Armand Rousseau and his son Charles, who took over the reins in 1959, the domaine acquired various Grand Cru vineyards in Charmes, Mazis and Mazoyères-Chambertin, culminating in a plot in Le Chambertin itself in 1994. Careful winemaking, which allows for terroir-expression, the sparing use of oak and old vines, all make for elegant and pure wines that are built for long ageing.

Critics Ratings
'Fragrant aromas of rose, cherry, sandalwood and sweet baking spice announce this polished, elegant red, whose intense flavors build nicely to the long finish, with a mineral element coming in on the aftertaste. A touch heavy on grip and oak presence now, but this shows terrific potential. Best from 2021 through 2040.’ – Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator, 95/100 (Dec 2017)
‘Here, it has a harmonious, elegant yet quite intense bouquet with red cherries, wild strawberry and white pepper scents gaining momentum all the time in the glass. The aromatics just seem to grow. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, very focused and harmonious with pure, tensile red cherries, strawberry and light spice notes on the saturated finish. The oak is seamlessly integrated and it just loses some of its initial class with aeration in the glass. Good, but hey, this is Rousseau.’ – Neal Martin, Wine Advocate (Sep 2017)
‘Lots of sweet plum fruit with the structure of fine Gevrey. Some oak in evidence and lots of structure. Shoulders! Very long.’ – Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 17++/20 (Nov 2015)
‘Deep red. Dark raspberry, licorice, mint and underbrush on the nose; more soil-driven and less floral than the Lavaux Saint-Jacques. Conveys serious density and sharp definition but comes across as a bit youthfully imploded today. Intense, juicy black raspberry fruit is complicated by a saline quality. Finishes with firm but suave tannins and saliva-inducing lift.’ – Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, 90-92/100 (Dec 2015)
