About this Item

2010 La Romanée
1 (1 x 1) 750ml

Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair was established in 2000. While it is a relatively new domaine in Burgundy, the Liger-Belair family has owned vineyards in Vosne-Romanée since 1815. They produce a range of Grand and Premier Cru wines from vineyards in Nuits-Saint-Georges and Vosne-Romanée, with the tiny monopole of La Romanée providing their flagship wine. The Comte Liger-Belair wines are highly sought-after, despite the domaine's youth and the La Romanée monopole is regularly among the most expensive wines produced in Burgundy. Comte Liger-Belair's mostly Pinot Noir-based wines are farmed using biodynamic principles and the vineyards are still plowed by horse.

Michael Egan Authentication code - 2072.

Provenance

The Coats Family Cellar is arguably the most prestigious fine wine collection ever offered in South Africa. It contains an expansive collection of the worlds finest, most sought-after wines, spanning over 150 years. Collected over many decades, the cellar was imported from Ireland to South Africa via refrigerated container. Each bottle within the Coats Family Cellar was authenticated by Michael Egan in August 2022 and given an ID number for tracking.

Michael Egan is a world-expert in fine and rare wines with more than thirty five years of experience. He was the principal expert for the plaintiff in the two major wine counterfeiting trials in Koch v. Eric Greenberg and United States v. Rudy Kurniawan, both of which occurred in 2013.

Along with Michael Egan, the Strauss & Co Fine Wine team have tasted extensively through the cellar and are confident of the wine storage and hence quality. The entire collection is currently stored at Wine Cellar.

Critics Ratings

'The 2010 La Romanée Grand Cru is a magnificent contribution to the vintage, one of the best that Louis-Michel has overseen. The bouquet is very intense with mineral-soaked red berry fruit mixed with truffle, rose petals, orange blossom and lavender. The palate is medium-bodied with refined tannin, wonderful balance and intensity, great backbone and enormous persistency in the mouth with hints of sage and black pepper. This La Romanée will require a decade in bottle but it will be worth the wait.' - Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, 97/100 (Jul 2015)

'With the 2010 La Romanée we enter the realm of wines that are going to require many, many years to just start drinking well. In the 2010, I am drawn to the wine's explosive energy and tension. Beams of salivating acidity and firm tannins provide the backdrop for a vivid and viscerally thrilling Burgundy. The 2010 is an eternal wine that captivates readers for many, many decades. I only hope to taste it again when it is mature.' - Antonio Galloni, Vinous, 98/100 (Jun 2015)

'A superb wine from a great year, this is powerful and structured, with great acidity and solid, pronounced fruits. La Romanée is a small vineyard, wholly owned by Liger-Belair, next to Romanée-Conti. The wine is rich, spicy and very complex, with black fruits welling up from its depth. With great structure, it brings together opulent Pinot Noir fruits with firm, dense tannins with immense aging potential.' - Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, 96/100 (Aug 2013)
