About this Item
Located behind the old fishing village of Hermanus, is one of the most southerly wine Estates in Africa, Hamilton Russell. The estate was purchased in 1975 by Tim Hamilton Russell and in 1991 his son, Anthony Hamilton Russell, took over and immediately narrowed their range down to only Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. This proved to be a masterstroke and made the Hemel-en-Aarde valley notorious for producing the best Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in South Africa and a recognised expression outside of Burgundy.

Critics Ratings
‘More interesting, typical pinot features on 2014: black cherries, hint undergrowth & spice but none of the mint on 2013 (4 stars, 87 pts). Quite luscious, richly silky but well-contained by fresh thread acid, fine bracing tannins. Some magnums available.’ - Platter's SA Wine Guide 2016, 4.5*
‘After a couple of disappointing releases, Hamilton Russell’s Pinot is back on form in 2014 and looks set to continue the improvements in 2015 under new winemaker, Emul Ross, if the barrel samples I tasted reflect what is bottled. This is quite a firm style, but with good structure and some welcome fruit sweetness. Drink: 2015-21’ - Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2015, 93/100
‘Very stylish and alluring, with blood orange, singed cinnamon, dark tea and lightly mulled cherry fruit notes weaving together, laced with a tangy mineral echo that stretches out the finish. Drink now through 2016.’ – James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 92/100 (Nov 2015)
