Notes
Mari Simmulson was a prominent Swedish ceramicist, and one of the leading designers for Gustavsberg and Upsala-Ekeby factories who created the 'Agave' and 'Tulip' series. She was known for her bold, organic shapes, vibrant colors and stylized floral motifs inspired by nature. This series is characterized by the delightfully vivid leaves that are deeply incised into the surface and gloss-glazed in hues of yellow and bold teal. The leaves are offset against the fine-lined matte glazed backdrop in brown. The juxtaposition of glazes and textures gives these pieces a tactile quality.
