Notes
D.I.M - Decoration Interieure Moderne was a French interior decoration house in Paris founded by René Joubert, and joined by Philippe Petit. Amongst other things, they undertook projects for aeroplane cabins and ocean liners, always designing furniture of the finest quality taking their inspiration from Louis XVI or Restoration pieces, for an elite clientele.
By 1930 they had become one of the largest studio-galleries in Paris, participating in the 1925 Exposition Internationale des Arts Decoratifs et Industriels Modernes (The International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts), Paris. Their commissions included installations on oceanliners like L'Atlantique and SS Normandie, where he ocean liner was celebrated as an example of French technological achievement and was treated as a floating version of the 1925 Exposition, with French designers commissioned to decorate the interiors in the Art Deco style.
